Hi! My name is Bee, and I’m a Clinical Psychologist. I completed my clinical training and internships in New Zealand, and have since worked across a variety of settings including hospital inpatient and outpatient units, community mental health services, university clinics and private practices. My passion is seeing individuals and couples thrive and grow more resilient in difficult times. While we cannot necessarily change the tides of life, we can improve our navigation by learning to respond to change in a healthy manner.
Psycho-oncology and Behavioural Medicine
Has your chronic illness taken over your life? Are you feeling tired of all the doctors’ appointments, new medications, and side effects? You might be worrying about your future, or feeling sad, isolated, and confused because living with a chronic illness is not what you have envisioned for your life. I offer in-person or online telehealth sessions for individuals and couples impacted by cancer, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, diabetes and other autoimmune disorders. In addition to clinical work, I am actively involved in psychosocial oncology research to promote the health and wellbeing of patients and carers affected by cancer.
Perinatal and Infant Mental Health
Preparation for and transitioning to parenthood can be joyous and exciting. However, for many, the process can also be rife with anxiety and distress. Becoming a parent is an identity shift, and supporting the mother, father and infant through the stages of planning and preparation, pregnancy and postpartum is a passion of mine. I have extensive experience working with parents who struggle with fertility issues, perinatal loss, birth trauma, difficulty adjusting to parenthood, as well as the impact of postnatal distress on a couples relationship and family dynamics.
Healing Trauma and Grief
I help adults with trauma histories, specifically those who have experienced invalidating or neglectful upbringing, childhood trauma or relational trauma. I also work with individuals who are dealing with loss and grief, whether through death, the ending of relationships, or other life circumstances. I help clients alleviate the distress associated with trauma and negative life experiences, and learn to move forward.
HOW I HELP
I provide a compassionate, accepting and collaborative environment in which you can safely identify and explore those issues that may be getting in the way of a more meaningful and enriching home life, career, or relationship. The goal is to help provide you with the insights and tools you need to move beyond self- limiting beliefs and behaviours, and promote self-growth and build upon your strengths. I use various therapeutic models such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization Response (EMDR) and Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy.
MORE ABOUT ME
I am currently navigating through my journey as a new mother. Originally from the multicultural society of Malaysia, I am fluent in Mandarin and enjoy working with clients from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. When I am not working, you can find me spending time with family and friends, drinking way too much coffee, cooking up a feast, watching binge-worthy TV shows, and engaging in creative outlets such as painting and photography.
