Hello, I’m Wai Leng, a Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years of experience supporting individuals, children, adolescents, couples, and families across various life stages. I’ve worked in a broad range of settings including public inpatient units, community mental health services, Karitane residential care, family health centres, Jade House (providing long-term therapy for perinatal mood disorders), and private practice.
My clinical work is grounded in a trauma-informed, attachment-focused lens, with a strong belief in the capacity for growth through reflection, safe connection, and relational healing. I also bring international experience in child protection, which has shaped my culturally attuned and developmentally informed approach.
Therapeutic Focus
I work with children, adolescents, adults, and families in the following areas:
-
Child and adolescent mental health, including anxiety, depression, bullying, self-harm, and family transition
-
Parenting and family relationships, including behavioural challenges, sibling adjustment, and parent-child connection
-
Perinatal and infant mental health, including fertility issues, birth trauma, postnatal distress, and parent-infant bonding
-
Trauma recovery, including childhood trauma, relational trauma, and emotional dysregulation
-
Culturally responsive care, especially for families from East and Southeast Asian backgrounds navigating intergenerational dynamics
Therapeutic Approach
My therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and reflective. I help clients explore how early relationships, unconscious patterns, and emotional experiences shape how they relate to themselves and others. My work draws from:
- Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
-
Schema Therapy
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
-
Mentalisation-Based Therapy (MBT)
-
Parent-Infant Therapy
Each intervention is guided by the needs and stage of the client — whether that’s a child in distress, a new parent feeling overwhelmed, or an adult seeking deeper emotional insight.
Clinical Supervision
I am an AHPRA Board-Approved Supervisor and provide individual and group supervision to registered and clinical psychologists. I also serve as the in-house supervisor for clinicians at Mind Health Collective.
My supervision practice focuses on perinatal and infant mental health, complex trauma, and work with children and families. I aim to provide a collaborative, thoughtful space where supervisees feel supported to grow in confidence, clinical skill, and self-reflection.
Booking Options
I offer therapy sessions in person and via telehealth, and I welcome both local and interstate supervisees into my reflective practice groups.
More About Me
I speak English, Mandarin, and Cantonese, and bring a culturally responsive perspective to my work with individuals and families. I’m always looking for ways to deepen my therapeutic effectiveness — and I see each interaction as a learning opportunity.
Outside of work, I enjoy a good TV drama, time with family and friends, and continuing to learn through experience and reflection.
